Channel Strip Basics

When a channel or group is selected, the central touchscreen and associated knobs provide access to its processing:

  1. Input Section:

    • Gain/Trim: Adjusts the input level hitting the channel.
    • Phase: Inverts the polarity (useful for phase alignment, e.g., on snare bottom mic).
    • Filters: High-Pass Filter (HPF) and Low-Pass Filter (LPF) to remove unwanted frequencies.
  2. Dynamics Section:

    • Gate: Attenuates or mutes the signal when it falls below a set threshold (useful for cleaning up drum mics).
    • Compressor: Reduces the dynamic range, making quiet parts louder and loud parts quieter, providing level control and sustain.
  3. EQ Section:

    • Parametric Equalizer (typically 4-band) to boost or cut specific frequencies, shaping the tone of the instrument or voice.
  4. Aux Sends Section:

    • Controls how much of the channel’s signal is sent to auxiliary buses (used for monitor mixes and effects sends). Accessed via the Aux button or Layer 2 faders.
  5. Pan Section:

    • Positions the signal in the stereo field (Left/Right). Accessed via the Pan button.
  6. Output Section:

    • Determines where the channel’s processed signal is routed (e.g., to specific Groups or the Master Bus).
    • Allows configuration of Direct Outs and Inserts (for external hardware or internal plugins).
